Expanding participation and strengthening the European Research Area (ERA) aims to optimize scientific strengths and potential for a more innovative Europe.
The general objective of the program is to support the countries of the European Union and associated countries with less advanced performance in the field of research and innovation to align with the criteria of excellence in research and the policies of the European Research Area with the aim of reducing the existing gap; increasing the participation rate and the success rate in the Horizon Europe programme; strengthening the common scientific and technological space for coherent Europe for research, innovation and education; collaboration between the countries of Europe and other countries to spread good practices in knowledge.
The specific objectives of the program refer to improving research management capacity, increasing national funding for research and innovation capacities, promoting access to excellence in research, establishing new ecosystems and scaling existing ones, promoting institutional and scientific cooperation projects with geographical coverage expanded, cooperation between research institutions with very good research performance and institutions with lower performance, support for the reform of national / regional research-innovation policies and their adjustment to ERA policies, increasing the participation of beneficiaries / actors with lower performances in research projects specific to Pillar 2 and Pillar 3.
