The Republic of Moldova, Romania and Ukraine: new opportunities for academic and scientific cooperation

Nicu Vrabie, thematic coordinator for Pillar II at the National Horizon Europe Office, presented Horizon Europe cooperation opportunities at the Romania–Republic of Moldova–Ukraine academic forum.

On 21 October 2026, Nicu Vrabie, thematic coordinator for Pillar II at the National Horizon Europe Office of the National Agency for Research and Development (ANCD), took part in Romania–Republic of Moldova–Ukraine: the Academic Cooperation Forum, held online as part of the 17th edition of the international conference “The Future of Europe”, organised by the Faculty of International Economic Relations of the Bucharest University of Economic Studies.

The event presented Pillar II of the Horizon Europe Programme, with a focus on funding opportunities for collaborative research and innovation projects, the development of international partnerships, and the involvement of research institutions, universities and businesses from the Republic of Moldova in European consortia.

The forum provided a setting for dialogue among representatives of academia from the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Ukraine, to identify shared interests and explore concrete avenues for cooperation, including joint research projects, scientific publications, academic mobility and educational initiatives.

Strengthening regional cooperation and connecting the scientific community of the Republic of Moldova to European research networks are important steps towards making use of the opportunities offered by Horizon Europe and increasing innovation capacity.

The National Horizon Europe Office at ANCD encourages research institutions, universities and companies in the Republic of Moldova to explore the programme’s opportunities and to develop international partnerships for projects with scientific, economic and societal impact.
